This article is regarding the locate and updatedb commands on CentOS

The locate command helps to quickly find files by filename. The command reads one or more databases prepared by updatedb and displays file names matching at least one of the patterns to standard output.

To install it, type:

yum -y install mlocate

And then, to update mlocate

updatedb

mlocate installs a cron job that will run daily to update the databases at:

/etc/cron.daily/mlocate.cron
